In some ways it might. A vaccine would be most effective if it could produce antibodies that target the spike protein so they can play double-duty by both marking the virus as an invader while simultaneously preventing its entry into cells. However, antibodies that target any part of the virus will be better than nothing. And there are other parts of the spike protein (besides the disordered region) that antibodies could target to disrupt its function.

So, like most things with COVID-19, the real answer is “I don’t know.” I find it exhilarating to be so ignorant! lol
